“You can’t improve what you don’t measure.” - Peter Drucker
Assessments have played a critical role in education, but how they can be used rigorously for diagnostic purposes to aid learning remains a question. In the past few years, I have developed novel psychometric models and investigated statistical procedures for supporting the use of diagnostic assessments.
I am the recipient of the 2021 Jason Millman Promising Measurement Scholar Award from the National Council on Measurement in Education and the 2018 Outstanding Dissertation Award from Division D of the American Educational Research Association. I am also a co-recipient of the 2017 Bradley Hanson Award for Contributions to Educational Measurement from the National Council on Measurement in Education. My research has been supported by the National Science Foundation, U.S. Department of Justice and the University of Alabama.
